Even with the non-stop, crazy busy schedule that this time of year brings (start of school!), nearly every night I find myself googling the Olympic medal count to see if the U.S. is in the lead. For many of us, the competitive spirit remains whether we’re talking about education outcomes or our nation’s medal count! As of Thursday evening, we are WINNING…in both the overall count and in gold medals (just in case you haven’t checked yet).
When the Olympics roll around every few years, sometimes I have the time to watch several events and sometimes very few, but regardless, even if it’s watching a play back, I love seeing the incredible athletes compete in an environment that is competitive, supportive, and respectful. The Olympics are the one time our world seems to come together and celebrate the human talent that exists in each of our countries. And of course, anytime they mention a Hoosier or someone from Indiana, even if you don’t know that athlete, there is an instant connection and desire to see them succeed.
As we approach the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in a few short days, I want to send a special shout out to the Hoosier athletes competing for Team USA in Paris, as well as our Indiana schools that helped shape them into who they are today! A few of the athletes below have medaled…some even winning GOLD!

Or maybe you watched Cole Hocker, a graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis as he pulled ahead at the end of the men’s 1500m race to win a gold medal and set an Olympic record. Whether you’re following the Olympics closely or just catching up as time allows, I hope you’re feeling a sense of pride in our Hoosier athletes and Team USA!
