Aspiring Special Education Leadership Institute (ASELI) Applications Now Open
The Indiana Council of Administrators of Special Education (ICASE) developed ASELI, a one-year leadership development program that prepares a diverse group of educators for special education leadership roles to improve outcomes for all students. ASELI is currently accepting applications for cohort five. ASELI is composed of teachers, school psychologists, counselors, and principals from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds who aspire to be special education administrators and are committed to a career in special education leadership. LVIS360 Update
Educators applying for initial licenses or renewals in the next few months should log in to the updated LVIS360 system soon to link their LVIS legacy licensure data to their LVIS360 account. The new system requires users to create an Access Indiana account prior to accessing LVIS360. The Office of Educator Licensing recommends getting acquainted with the new login process and linking your new LVIS360 login to your legacy account now before the busy season for licensing starts in May. Future-Focused Indiana Academic Standards (IAS) Courses Now Available: Social Studies, Science/Computer Science, Integrated STEM
The new future-focused IAS courses for Social Studies, Science and Computer Science Course, and Integrated STEM are available as asynchronous learning opportunities for educators to review new standards, progress monitoring, formative assessments, and leadership/coaching strategies. Professional Growth Plan (PGP) points are available for both courses upon completion. Contact IDOE’s Office of Teaching and Learning with any questions.
Literacy Endorsement Professional Development
Indiana educators with an existing pre-kindergarten through grade six or special education license are invited to register for a Keys to Literacy training cohort at no cost, to help them earn Indiana’s Literacy Endorsement. Eligible educators who participate in a Keys to Literacy training cohort can receive up to $1,200 in stipends for completion of the course. Spring Testing Reminders: ILEARN, SAT, I AM
IDOE’s Office of Student Assessment provides the following reminders for teachers as they prepare for wrapping up spring statewide assessments.
- ILEARN 3-8, Biology, and U.S. Government testing begins on Monday, April 15. Test Administrators (TAs) must ensure they have completed the TA Certification course, verified student demographic data, and prepared necessary materials prior to testing. More information and resources can be found on IDOE’s ILEARN webpage and Indiana Assessment Portal.
- The SAT School Day makeup testing window occurs from Monday, April 8, through Friday, April 19. Junior students who experienced testing irregularities approved for retesting and students who were absent during the primary testing window should participate in this administration. More information and resources can be found on IDOE’s High School Assessment webpage and College Board’s Indiana Resources Google Drive.
- Scores for students who submitted tests during the primary window from Monday, Math 4, through Friday, March 15, will be available to educators on Tuesday, April 2, and students on Thursday, April 4.
- I AM testing begins on Monday, April 1, for eligible students. TAs must ensure they have completed the I AM TA Certification course, verified student demographic and accommodations data, and prepared necessary materials prior to testing. More information and resources can be found on IDOE’s I AM webpage and Indiana Assessment Portal.

Week of the Young Child® (WOYC) Activities and Resources
WOYC, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is from Saturday, April 6, through Friday, April 12, and is designed to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. IDOE developed this resource and activity guide and will host daily sessions in the Indiana Learning Lab for both educators and families. Register here. Social Studies Frameworks for Grades Six through Eight Now Available
IDOE developed new frameworks in alignment with the streamlined 2023 Indiana Academic Standards for grades six through eight. Frameworks are designed to support educators in standards implementation, providing key areas of focus such as academic vocabulary, clarification statements, and instructional resources. Access these resources from the 2023 Social Studies Frameworks collection in the Indiana Learning Lab. Kindergarten through grade five standards and the new middle school civics course are also available in the Learning Lab. Nominations for the 2024 Education Excellence Awards for Individual Educators
IDOE will celebrate Indiana educators at the third annual Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala in Indianapolis on Friday, September 6. Nominate an excellent Indiana educator for one of the 2024 Individual Educator Excellence Awards here. Nominations will be accepted Friday, April 26, through Sunday, May 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Nominate an Educator for Teacher of the Year
The Indiana Teacher of the Year Program inspires, rejuvenates, and celebrates the teaching profession by recognizing outstanding teachers from across the state. Local schools are encouraged to participate in an annual selection process and local Teacher(s) of the Year are encouraged to complete the state application process by Friday, July 5. Free Adolescent Literacy Half-Day Workshop: Monday, April 22
Building literacy skills through language comprehension and background knowledge can be hard to do, especially in upper grade classrooms where students’ reading skills vary widely. Newsela and Keep Indiana Learning are hosting This free workshop on Monday, April 22 to share instructional strategies that will build adolescent learners into skilled readers. University of Southern Indiana (USI) Quantitative Reasoning Conference
USI will host its annual Quantitative Reasoning Conference on Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, on the USI campus in Evansville. The conference is sponsored by a grant from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund and is intended for public high school teachers who offer a quantitative reasoning course or are planning to offer one in the future. Participating teachers will receive a $240 stipend to attend and hotel accommodations will be provided for two nights for individuals who live more than 60 miles from Evansville.
