School Nutrition Programs

This weekly newsletter from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is dedicated to providing education, training, and technical assistance opportunities to school nutrition professionals, helping to ensure seamless operations for those participating in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child Nutrition Programs. If you are the food service contact for your school or facility, please be certain that everyone on your team has access to this important information.

Tip of the Week

CNPweb Contact and Program Updates

Sponsors must update CNPweb when a contact or program changes. Ensure the food service and executive contacts on the Sponsor Information Sheet are updated as soon as a change occurs. IDOE relies on this contact information to communicate important program updates, special announcements, and direct outreach from your field specialist. Prior to a program being implemented (like the After School Snack Program) or a major change taking place (like adding on summer feeding), be sure to contact your field specialist and update the Site Information Sheet in CNPweb as well.

Application for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Indirect Cost Rates

The window to submit an application for FY 2024 Indirect Cost Rates is open through Monday, May 1. School corporations and charter schools that provided Form 9 financial information for FY 2022 are eligible to apply for a restricted and an unrestricted rate for FY 2024. New charter schools are eligible to apply but will be subject to the median rate. The following memo includes the application instructions. Contact icr@doe.in.gov with any questions.

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Eligibility

Families with children receiving free or reduced-price school meals are eligible to participate in the ACP. This includes children attending a school participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.

The ACP provides eligible households a discount of up to $30 per month off their internet bills (or up to $75 per month for households on Tribal lands), as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 off an eligible connected device, like a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet. Reminders

Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Guidance from the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA)

Please see the updated website. Sharing this website with parents will reduce the number of questions and calls.

Homeschool and virtual students who qualify for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) will be eligible for P-EBT this year. Schools play no part in the eligibility determination of this group. Please refer inquiries to the P-EBT website for further information.

The federal public health emergency is scheduled to end on Thursday, May 11. School year P-EBT (based on COVID related absences) will not be calculated after the end of the public health emergency. Benefit issuance may still occur, but days of eligibility will not continue to be counted. For example, if a student misses school Monday, May 15, through Thursday, May 18, due to COVID, they are not eligible for P-EBT for those dates.

Summer P-EBT for summer 2023 is a separate benefit not tied to COVID related absences. It is the last P-EBT benefit to be issued. It is imperative that all school year calculations are done correctly. There will not be time for late corrections.

Moodle Maintenance Scheduled for Thursday, March 30
