Update: 2019 Federal Accountability Ratings 

 

On Monday, December 30, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) will embargo the 2019 Federal Accountability Ratings to media, to be released publicly on January 3, 2020. As with embargoed releases in the past, media may reach out to school leaders for comment, and you can respond as you see fit. All news reports and stories are also embargoed until January 3.The embargoed press release is available here.

Please note, the federal ratings spreadsheet has not been finalized for media and therefore is not included in the attached embargoed press release. The spreadsheet will be available through Moodle on Monday, when the press release is distributed to the media.

Lead Sampling Program

The Indiana Finance Authority and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have developed the 2019-2020 Lead Sampling Program for Schools and Child Care Facilities. This program is designed to help schools and child care facilities assess if there is a presence of lead in drinking water within their buildings. More information can be found here.

Release Date Finalized for School Building Level Report

This update details the public release of the School Building Level Reports which schools have had the chance to review during the last three weeks. This report shares additional information about the upcoming release of per- pupil spending data on INview along with a mock-up of what the data will look like on the INview site. Read the full report here.

2019 Graduation Rates Available Following Close of 2019 Grad Rate Audit

Final determinations from 2019 graduation rate audits have been mailed to principals and superintendents. The 2019 state and federal graduation rates will be published on or before December 31. The final 2019 graduation rate can be found in Learning Connection. The 2019 graduation rates will be used in accountability ratings in 2020. Questions can be directed here.

Public Release of 2019 Federal Accountability Ratings

The federal accountability ratings will be released publicly to IDOE’s website on January 3, 2020. These ratings will also be publicly available on INview in mid-January. Public schools and corporations may view and access their final federal ratings prior to the public release by logging into the accountability portal. Resources on the federal accountability system may be found in the “School Accountability & Accreditation” community on Moodle.

 

Office of Assessment

Item Writing Workshop

IDOE is seeking 13 educators for English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies in grades 3 - 8 and High School (Biology) to write items for ILEARN assessments. A two-day workshop will be held in late February/early March. Educators will be trained on item-writing best practices to construct these items. Educators will be expected to develop approximately 10 items in a six-month time frame outside of the standard school day, and will be compensated for additional items written outside of the workshop. Assistance will be offered to educators during the development cycle. Interested participants should complete the following Jotform. A subset of applicants will be identified for a follow-up phone conversation to define the expectations for this process and to gather details about content and assessment expertise of the applicant. Final selections will be made by February 7, 2020.

Youth Assistance Program (YAP) Funding Opportunity

IDOE is pleased to announce a Youth Assistance Program (YAP) Pilot expansion funding opportunity for Indiana Schools. The YAP was created with the goal to decrease the number of youth entering the juvenile justice system to foster a more productive citizenry and reduce rates of violence and poverty in our community. Disciplinary Literacy Book Study

IDOE’s literacy team is excited to announce a great professional learning opportunity for all K-12 educators of any subject! The literacy team is hosting a book study over The Writing Revolution. The purpose of the book study is to provide educators with strategies that, when explicitly taught, improve students’ writing abilities across all subjects and grades. Registration Open for Analytical Algebra II Meetings

Register for the Analytical Algebra II spring learning and collaboration meeting in Indianapolis, Jasper, or Warsaw by clicking on the location. Title Con 2020 Website Now Available

The Title Con 20/20 website is now live. The site provides useful information on the conference, along with helpful tips in planning travel. The site will be continually updated. Check back for new information, and monitor social media for updates. Title Con 2020 is April 14-16, 2020.

Teacher Residency Grant Pilot Program and Fund

Per House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1009, the Indiana General Assembly established the Teacher Residency Grant Pilot Program and Fund which allocates one million dollars for the 2019 – 2020 academic year. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) was charged with administrating the funds for school corporations or charters seeking to partner with a post-secondary institution in the development and implementation of a teacher residency program. CHE recently posted information regarding the application process for interested schools and charters. More information is available here. A link to HEA 1009 is posted here.
