IDOE’s The Science of Happiness Course - Coming Soon

 

Student and educator social-emotional wellness is a top priority for the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). In January, IDOE released the social-emotional competencies for K-12 students. In partnership with Butler University, IDOE has created The Science of Happiness course, designed for educators to promote their own social-emotional wellness. Participants will earn 45 professional growth plan points after successfully completing the course. Please promote The Science of Happiness with educators in your district by sharing this short promotional video

Systems Readiness Test – Fall Window Opening Soon (9/30 - 10/4)

All schools are required to complete a systems readiness test (SRT) to prepare for online testing. An SRT simulates online testing at the local level, ensuring student testing devices and local school networks are correctly configured to support online testing. An SRT helps schools identify and resolve any potential technical issues prior to operational testing, when a technical issue could affect a student’s test score. Review the Systems Readiness Test Guide for additional details. Schools participating in this SRT are not required to take part in the spring SRT. 

Technology Requirements for Online Testing Webinar Now Available on the Indiana Portal

AIR’s Technology Requirements for Online Testing Webinar defines the steps for secure browser installation and minimum hardware requirements. This training can be accessed via the Indiana Portal for all Indiana assessment programs. 

AIR’s Test Information and Distribution Engine (TIDE) opens Monday for the 2019-2020 School Year

Beginning Monday, September 23, CTCs may proceed with confirming authorized user roles in TIDE and any rostering (optional). Additionally, permissioned staff may proceed with confirming TIDE account usernames and password resets at that time.

IDOE / AIR Nightly File Upload Resumes Monday

IDOE’s nightly file upload to AIR’s systems resumes on Monday, September 23. Corporations and schools who reported any updates to student information during the last few weeks should see those changes reflected in AIR’s systems next week.

ISPROUT Initiation and Training Requirements

ISPROUT Training of Trainers is almost complete, and teacher trainings are underway. Details on training requirements for educators can be found here. One Training of Trainers session is scheduled for September 30 in Franklin. If an individual in your organization has not yet completed this training, please register here.

ISPROUT Technical Support

September 23-27 College GO! Week in Indiana

Next week in Indiana is College Application Week. This event is part of Indiana’s annual College GO! campaign. The initiative aims to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing education after high school. Analytical Algebra II Collaboration Meetings Set

Register for the Analytical Algebra II fall learning and collaboration meeting in Jasper, Indianapolis, or Warsaw by clicking on the location, or by accessing the September newsletter. Analytical Algebra II Check-In set for September 24

On September 24 at 3 p.m. (ET) the secondary math specialist from IDOE will host a one-hour virtual check-in with current teachers of Analytical Algebra II. We will share successes, struggles, and strategies surrounding the new course. Register here to join in the conversation.

Seeking K-12 Science Educators

IDOE, in collaboration with the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc., is beginning work on Phase II of the Science Framework. Phase II will focus on the identification of cross-cutting concepts and the implementation of the science and engineering process standards. IDOE is looking for science educators to share their expertise in this process.

Registration Closes TODAY for High Ability Conference

The Indiana High Ability (HA) Coordinators Conference will be held on October 3. Click here for more information. This FREE event is sponsored by IDOE's Office of High Ability to ensure HA Coordinators in every Indiana school district have an opportunity to learn the latest in high ability education, to share their needs directly with IDOE staff, and to collaborate with other high ability coordinators around the state. 

SIG Competitive Implementation Grants

LEAs whose Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) schools receiving 2018-2019 planning grants are eligible to compete for up to $200,000 in additional funds for the 2019-2020 school year. An eligibility list can be found here. The competitive applications are due through the Title I app center. CSI schools eligible have the available $200,000 added to their FY 2020 grants. Recent resources to support LEAs applying for A+ Evidence for ESSA can be found on video and slides. Fifth-Annual Indiana STEM Education Conference 

The Fifth Annual Indiana STEM Education Conference will be held at Purdue University in West Lafayette on January 15, 2020. The 2020 conference will have new features addressing the STEM education needs of K-12 teachers and schools. This year’s theme will focus on Indiana’s STEM Education Strategic Plan. Afternoon professional development workshop opportunities, including a workshop to help you earn workforce-related hours, will also be offered. Registration opens in September. Speaker proposals are due October 15, and can be submitted here.

Indiana Academy of Science STEM Partnership

IDOE has entered into a STEM partnership with the Indiana Academy of Science (IAS). This partnership is designed to connect high school science and math educators to IAS members. The goal of the partnership is to build a collaborative network focused on shared research, shared resources, and enhanced instructional practices leading to improved student achievement.

IDOE is looking for 50 teachers, preferably a science and math teacher from the same high school, and match them with an Indiana scientist. There will be four meetings per year (October 29, December 3, February 4, 2020, and March 21, 2020) led by IAS members and facilitated by IDOE representatives. Interested teachers can register here.

Sports and STEM Fest

The Indianapolis Colts are hosting their first Sports and STEM Fest on October 12, at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center. This event will have hands-on, STEM-related activities for K-12 students and their families to enjoy. Registration also includes a ticket to the Colts vs Titans game on December 1. Design Principles for eLearning Days 

Are you looking for support as your district considers implementing eLearning Days? Have you been doing eLearning Days for a while, but want to get some new ideas? Join the eLearning Lab webinar at 4 p.m. EST on October 8 when IDOE Senior Digital Learning Specialist, Jennifer Watson, shares best practices on designing and structuring eLearning Days. Fall eLearning Book Club

The 2019 fall eLearning book club will be kicking off on October 7. This fall we will be reading Shake Up Learning by Kasey Bell. The book club is a great opportunity to participate in professional development when and where it is convenient for you in a blog discussion. Education Workforce Innovation Network (EWIN) Planning Grants

The Request for Proposals for Round Five of the EWIN Planning Grants was released on September 6. EWIN has historically provided technical assistance in the processes of coalition building, sector partnership development, and pathway systems creation across the state. Round Five planning grants will allow grantees autonomy to develop local solutions for specific career-service needs within a target population. Applicants should review available local/regional education and workforce data to identify a specific population that lacks necessary career services. The grant service period will begin October 8, and end on May 29, 2020. Click here for detailed information about the eligible service populations, grant objectives, and the application process. Junior Achievement (JA) EduSpark Career Cluster Tour and Panel

JA EduSpark Career Cluster Tour and Panel is an opportunity open to all educators interested in connecting industry and classroom learning. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 24, from 2:30-5:00 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. JA will have tours of hands-on career experiences where educators can try out the activities and talk with business professionals in the eight industry clusters. Curricular Material Reimbursement 2019 - 2020

Public school corporations and charter schools may apply for curricular material reimbursement for the 2019-2020 school year by submitting both student-level and claim data between October 1 and October 31. Prior to submitting data, officials should review the curricular material data layout (DOE-TB). Reimbursement Claim Form Instructions are located on Moodle in the Public School Finance Community. Please email questions regarding curricular material reimbursement here. The submission deadline is October 31.

Fall Submission of Membership (ME)

All school corporation and charter school students who were enrolled and expected in attendance on September 13 must be reported in membership. The submission period for this data collection ends on September 25. The counts will be used to determine Basic Grant distributions for qualifying school corporations and charter schools. Please read the Membership (DOE-ME) layout which can be found in Data Layouts. For questions regarding membership, please email Melissa Ambre. The Submission deadline is September 25.

Fall Submission of Membership (MA) Adult Learners

All Adult Learner charter students who were enrolled and expected in attendance on September 13 must be reported in membership. The submission period for this data collection ends on September 25. The counts will be used to determine Adult Learner distributions to qualifying charter schools. Please read the Membership (DOE-MA) layout which can be found in Data Layouts. For questions regarding the FTE count, please email Melissa Ambre. The submission deadline is September 25.

Common School Loan Application

The Office of School Finance is accepting applications for construction and technology loans from public school corporations and school corporation career and technical education schools through October 4. Petitions must be received by October 4 to be considered. Information may be found in the Public School Finance Community of Moodle under Common School Loans/ Fall.
