This email provides news for schools concerning the Child Nutrition Programs from the USDA and the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). If you are the food service contact for your school or corporation, it is your responsibility to relay important information provided to you about the Child Nutrition Programs to other staff members.

Coffee Break Webinars

  • Don't forget! The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) will be hosting coffee break webinars starting next week! 
  • Topics include:
    • Professional Standards
    • Effective Date Waiver
    • Free and Reduced Process
    • Direct Certification
    • Disclosure
    • Civil Rights
    • Updates and Reminders
  • Webinars will be approximately 30 minutes in length. 
  • Participants will receive a certificate for professional standards credit.

Indiana School Nutrition Association (ISNA) Updates

ISNA and IDOE Certificate Program

  • ISNA and IDOE will be holding a training on "Financial Management for School Nutrition Directors" as part of the ISNA & IDOE Certificate Program. 
  • This 8 hour course will cover topics such as:
    • Importance of Financial Management
    • Reporting and Managing Revenue and Expenditures
    • Controlling Food and Labor Costs
    • Developing and Analyzing a Budget
  • This training will take place the day before ISNA's annual Spring Seminar, Thursday, April 25 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Plainfield, IN.

Annual Spring Seminar

  • Registration is now open for ISNA's Spring Seminar.
  • ISNA has developed a fantastic agenda, complete with practical marketing ideas for school districts and a session entitled "#FuelGreatness and Your Bottom Line."
  • The spring seminar will be on Friday, April 26 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Plainfield, IN.

7th Annual Every Kid Healthy™ Week

  • Schools are invited to host an event next week, April 22-26, or any time in April.
  • Every Kid Healthy™ Week is an annual event created to celebrate school health and wellness achievements.
  • This special week shines a spotlight on the great efforts schools are making to improve the health and wellness of their students and the link between nutrition, physical activity, and learning – because healthy kids are better prepared to learn!
  • Anyone can get involved and be a part of the celebration to help support sound nutrition, regular physical activity and health-promoting programs in schools with a school health event.

Food Day 2019

  • Mark your calendars! Join us in October to celebrate Food Day 2019!
  • This year, IDOE has partnered with the American Dairy Association Indiana to highlight local yogurt. Mix it together with fresh, locally grown herbs to make a cool, creamy herbed yogurt dip.
