This email provides news for schools concerning the Child Nutrition Programs from USDA and the state. If you are the food service contact for your school or corporation, it is your responsibility to relay important information provided to you about the Child Nutrition Programs to other staff members.


Food Distribution Program - USDA Foods Update

  • Due to a lack of interest on the SY 2020 pre-order survey and the inability to order a full truck, the following USDA Foods have been CANCELLED and will NOT be delivered by the state contracted warehouses.

Direct Certification Website Issues

  • The STN Application Center, where Direct Certification and Direct Verification downloads are conducted, is experiencing site loading issues. 
  • This means when you try to load the website or run a Direct Certification match, you might receive the following error screen:

  • The Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) is actively working on correcting this problem. 
  • Contact Ed Roeger at eroeger@doe.in.gov if you receive the error when trying to load the Direct Certification/Direct Verification database.

Indiana School Nutrition Association (ISNA) Updates

Annual Spring Seminar

  • Registration is now open for ISNA's Spring Seminar.
  • ISNA developed a fantastic agenda, complete with practical marketing ideas for school districts and a session entitled, "#FuelGreatness and Your Bottom Line."
  • The spring seminar will be on Friday, April 26 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Plainfield, IN.

ISNA & IDOE Certificate Program

  • ISNA and the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) will be holding a training on "Financial Management for School Nutrition Directors" as part of the ISNA & IDOE Certificate Program. 
  • This 8 hour course will cover topics, such as:
    • Importance of Financial Management
    • Reporting and Managing Revenue and Expenditures
    • Controlling Food and Labor Costs
    • Developing and Analyzing a Budget
  • This training will take place the day before ISNA's annual Spring Seminar, Thursday, April 25 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Plainfield, IN.

Game On Grant

  • Give your students a boost in the 2019-2020 school year with a Game On Grant, School Breakfast Start Up Grant, or Parents for Healthy Kids Grant.
  • Receive funding and resources to increase physical activity opportunities, improve nutrition initiatives, or expand breakfast participation to make sure students are healthier and better prepared to learn.

Fuel Up to Play 60 Grants

  • The Fuel Up to Play 60 grant applications are due Wednesday, April 10.
  • Schools can apply for up to $4,000 towards their Fuel Up to Play 60 program.

No Kid Hungry Grant

  • No Kid Hungry wants to support YOUR school breakfast program.
  • Apply for up to $5,000 to start a breakfast after the bell program in your school or improve your existing breakfast program.
  • Funding can be used to purchase equipment, supplies, technology, and/or promotional materials.
  • Applications are due Friday, April 5.

Time to Milk It! Grant

  • Want to win a smoothie bike for your school?
