I AM Test Blueprints Now Available
The I AM Test Blueprints are now available here on the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) website. Blueprints define the essential content that will be measured by the assessment. Indiana educator committees, in collaboration with content experts, created the blueprints for I AM. The resource found here explains how to understand and use the I AM Blueprints to support instruction.
I AM Portal Now Available
The I AM portal is now available here. Please visit the portal for information regarding the new Alternate Assessment, a list of important dates, and other resources. The portal will be updated as additional resources become available.
Required Test Administrator (TA) Certification Course – SHARE WITH EDUCATORS!
School personnel planning to administer the ILEARN and/or IREAD-3 assessments this year must first complete the required Test Administrator Certification Course. This online training is approximately 30 minutes in length and will be posted to the Indiana Assessment Portal beginning October 15. Educators may complete the training any time until the scheduled assessment window for which they will serve as a Test Administrator (TA).
CTCs and local administrators should consider also requiring TAs to complete one or more of the other webinar trainings to help educators become familiar with the online testing platform and interface. Once delivered live, each recorded webinar will be posted to the Indiana Assessment Portal and may be viewed as time allows. Review this AIR training schedule for details.
ISTEP+ Spring 2018 Results OnDemand Data and Reports – Now Available (Embargo Remains in Effect)
Spring 2018 reports are available in PearsonAccess Next (PAN). Schools should share student results (Individual Student Reports) with parents as soon as possible. Spring 2018 ISTEP+ results are publicly embargoed until IDOE releases the results in early September.
ISTEP+ ECA Week 2 Window Open through August 29
The ISTEP+ ECA Week 2 window is open August 23 through August 29. This assessment is offered online only. Electronic reports will be available September 10.

New Assistant Director of Social Emotional and Behavioral Wellness Named
The Office of School Improvement is excited to announce a new position developed to better serve Indiana schools. Christy Berger has been named Assistant Director of Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Wellness. Indiana is one of only a few states in the nation to dedicate a position of this kind to social emotional learning efforts. Ms. Berger will work closely with schools on Multi-Tiered System of Supports, social emotional learning competencies, and work with state and local agencies to help drive social emotional wellness for PreK-12 students across Indiana. Professional Learning Communities Conference Registration Now Open
The Indiana Department of Education is dedicated to supporting schools in their efforts to ensure high levels of learning for all students. The Office of School Improvement is partnering with Solution Tree to provide two day-long sessions that will equip schools to build and sustain truly effective professional learning communities. Office of School Building Physical Security and Safety
The Indiana General Assembly recently passed Special Session House Enrolled Act 1230, which requires an audit of each school’s safety plan and an onsite visit to the corporation by August 1, 2019. The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is working through the final logistics to complete these safety plan audits. In the meantime, IDOE is providing a checklist of items that will be audited during this process. The checklist, which outlines legally mandated protocols for schools to be compliant with their safety plans, can be found here. Additional information regarding the process, timing of visits, and safety plan submission will be distributed at a later date.
Office of Workforce and STEM Alliances
Exploratory P-TECH Visit with Indiana Department of Education
The Indiana Department of Education is inviting 20 individuals to register for a visit to Chicago’s Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy to learn about implementing a P-TECH 9-14 school model in Indiana schools. Goode STEM Academy allows students to earn both a high school diploma and a two-year college degree with a focus on web development, networking technology, and general computer science. Indiana educators will see how this partnership between Chicago Public Schools, the City Colleges of Chicago, and IBM provide students with exemplary STEM opportunities. If interested, the day-long visit will take place September 18. Please register by using this link. Participants are expected to cover their own travel costs.

2018-2019 Teacher Appreciation Grant
Please find guidance here regarding submission of the School Year (SY) 2018-2019 Teacher Appreciation Grant. The submission must be made by September 14. TAG policies approved by local school boards or other governing agencies for SY 2017-2018 do not need to be locally reapproved for SY 2018-2019.

ESSA requires each school corporation to identify a foster youth point of contact and submit the information to the Indiana Department of Child Services. Learn more here.
Updated Child Abuse Guidance
This updated guidance regarding child abuse instruction contains a link to a short list of programs and curricula that have been shared through registries identified by the Child Welfare Information Gateway as research-informed, promising, and evidence-based. As a reminder, the statutory requirement to inform parents and require permission is determined by local policy.

Annual Financial Report
I.C. 5-3-1-3(g) states that each public school corporation [charter schools excluded] shall submit a copy of the Annual Financial Report to the Department of Education, and that the Department shall make it available for public inspection. The Annual Financial Report and proof of publication should be provided as a scanned document in a single PDF file on or before August 31 to AFR@doe.in.gov. Mailed hard copies will not be accepted. The template for the Annual Financial Report may be obtained under the Files and Bookmarks tab in the Annual Financial Report folder. 2018 Summer School Final Costs Report
The window to begin submitting the Final Instructional Costs Report for Summer School 2018 opened Monday, July 30. In order to be eligible to receive a summer school payment, the report must be submitted before the submission deadline on Friday, September 14. The link to access the report is posted on our website. Information on the Summer School program can be found in the Finance Community of the Learning Connection under Files and Bookmarks in the Summer School folder.
September 14 Membership Count Date
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) will collect an average daily membership (ADM) count of students on September 14. (I.C. 20-43-4-2) This is the only ADM count that will be used for Basic and Complexity Grant funding for the 2018-2019 school year. Additionally, IDOE will take a second count of eligible pupils enrolled in each school corporation and charter school on February 1, 2019. The February count is for information purposes only. Please read the Membership (DOE-ME) layout which provides the reporting phases for each count. IDOE will post the DOE-ME layout in the Data Collection and Reporting Community of the Learning Connection in the near future. Title III and Non-English Speaking Program (NESP) Grants
Non-English Speaking Program (NESP) and Title III grant applications are due August 31. Additional supporting resources, including allocations, video walk-throughs, and instructions for accessing the grant applications are also available on our website through the included links.
2018-2019 English Learner Plans
All Indiana LEAs are required to annually submit their plan to identify, assess, and provide additional English language services for English learners. The English Learner Plan must be submitted by email to Olga Tuchman by September 28. A detailed video walk-through and exemplar are available through the English Learner Plan link to assist LEAs as they complete and submit their plans. LEAs applying for Title III complete the English Learner Plan as part of their application and do not need to submit anything further to meet this requirement.
