Legislative Updates and Guidance

Deadlines for Alternative Education Fund Have Changed

The following information describes changes in dates for the distribution of alternative education funding and the deadlines for submitting required documentation. For more information, please contact Kimb Stewart.

Discontinuance of Emergency Permits in Communication Disorders

The Indiana Department of Education no longer has the authority to issue and renew Communication Disorders Emergency Permits. Read additional information here.


Assessment

ISTAR Reports Available to Corporations and Schools

Electronic ISTAR Reports will be available on the EAS Admin site beginning Wednesday, July 18. Paper reports will  arrive Tuesday, July 31. If you have questions regarding ISTAR Reports, please contact Stephanie Thompson.

Braille UEB Guidance for 2018-2019 State Testing

New Indiana Studies Standards Released (Updated)

The Office of School Improvement has released standards for the new Indiana Studies course. These standards can also be found on the standards page on the Indiana Department of Education website under Social Studies.

New School Improvement Plan Webpage Available

Plan to Attend Upcoming School Improvement Summit

The Indiana Department of Education Office of School Improvement will host a matchmaking summit. This free event is for schools and technical assistance partners already vetted for evidentiary requirements found in ESSA. Summit details and the registration link can be found here.

July 2018 State Tuition Support

School Technology Advancement Account Applications

The Office of School Finance will accept School Technology Advancement Account applications through July 13. Information on the application process can be found in the STAA folder located in the Finance Community of the Learning Connection. Form 9 ESSA Guidance

The Indiana Department of Education has issued guidance for Indiana Local Education Agencies (LEAs) federal reporting requirement under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and Indiana state law. This resource provides Indiana LEAs with an overview of state and federal reporting requirements for school building level data beginning July 1. Information on ESSA reporting requirements can be found in the ESSA folder in the Finance Community of the Learning Connection. Please send questions here.

Positive Discipline and Bullying Survey Seeks Superintendent Feedback

The Indiana Department of Education reminds superintendents the positive discipline and bullying information survey, required by legislation passed during this year’s legislative session, is available here. Survey submissions will not be attributed to individual school corporations. Submitted survey responses will only be used as aggregated information in the report to the General Assembly. The survey will remain open until August 10. Your feedback on these important issues is appreciated.


Office of Educator Effectiveness

IDOE Teacher Survey: Your Voice Matters- Survey Results Available July 13

A big shout out to the 144 school systems with more than 50 percent of their teachers completing the 2018 IDOE Teacher Survey: Your Voice Matters. Of the 144 school systems, 28 recorded 100 percent participation. Thank you to all who supported this project. On Friday, July 13, superintendents will receive an e-mail from Panorama Education with directions on accessing and navigating the information. Survey results have been embargoed until August 15. Contact Shari Switzer with any questions.

Teacher of the Year Applications Due July 9

Take time to make certain all of our deserving educators are nominated for Teacher of the Year. Applications must be submitted no later than July 9.


Office of Educator Licensing

New Options for Career Specialist Permit Eligibility

The 2018 General Assembly enacted two additional alternative licensure paths for the Career Specialist Permit. Click here to read about the new alternative paths and for information about supplemental salary payments and differentiated increments.
