The inaugural Teach to Lead Summit surpassed our expectations in providing a collaborative platform for developing STEM-related projects to benefit participating schools. Work completed by the 20 teams expanded opportunities for teacher leadership and enhanced student learning. Thank you to all who contributed in making this Summit an impactful two days.

Legislative Updates and Guidance

Training on Human Trafficking Identification

The following information offers guidance related to legislation addressing the identification and reporting of human trafficking. Questions should be emailed to Jeff Wittman.

Concussion Requirements and Certifications for Coaches

This guidance provides answers to frequently asked questions relating to updates in certification requirements for coaches and assistant coaches. Questions should be directed to Jolene Bracale.

Heat Preparedness Training for Coaches

The Indiana General Assembly has recently passed updated training certification requirements for coaches and assistant coaches. Questions should be sent to Jolene Bracale.


Office of Assessment 

Spring Retest Rescore Request Window – Closes TODAY Friday, June 22

The rescore request window will close at midnight, June 22. The Parent Portal will be temporarily deactivated during the completion of the rescore process. Phase 2 reports will be available for schools and families on July 26 to reflect students’ final scores.

The Summer Week 1 ECA Test Window is Open

The Week 1 ECA Test Window is open through June 27.

  • This is online testing only. For students with accommodations, please see the following guidance
  • Electronic reports will be available July 13.

ILEARN Technology Policy

The ILEARN Technology Policy defines online testing expectations and requirements for 2018-2019 assessments delivered by American Institutes for Research (AIR).

IDOE Content Area WebEx Recordings and PowerPoints Available – Share With Educators

The recordings and accompanying PowerPoint slides for recent social studies, mathematics, and biology WebEx trainings are on our website. These materials provide information about the new ILEARN blueprints, item specifications, and performance tasks. Recordings and PowerPoints for all ELA and science trainings will be posted by June 29.

AIR Webinar Recordings and PowerPoints Available – Share With Educators

Thanks to all who attended one or more of the American Institutes for Research (AIR) assessment literacy webinars. The recordings and accompanying PowerPoint slides for these trainings are on AIR’s Indiana Assessment Portal. Be sure to explore other resources located on the portal and sign up to receive alerts when new announcements are posted.


Office of School Improvement

Important Information on the 2018-2019 Elementary Reading Plan

All State Board-accredited schools with a section of kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3 are required to submit an Elementary Reading Plan. The 2018-2019 Reading Plan submission window will close June 30. Please find updated guidance for the Reading Plan submission. Questions may be directed to Amy Heath.

Submissions are made via IDOE Online. Principals will utilize their username/password logins to access IDOE Online.  

If individuals need assistance completing the Reading Plan template, please refer to this information. Content questions should be sent to Amy Heath. Technical questions concerning the Reading Plan should be sent to Rajini Govindarajan

School Improvement Plans for 2018-2019 Can be Submitted Beginning Today

2018-2019 School Improvement Plans are due September 14. Additional information is available here. Contact Robin LeClaire with any questions.

School Technology Advancement Applications

The Office of School Finance will accept School Technology Advancement Account applications through July 13. Information on the application process can be found in the STAA folder located in the Finance Community of the Learning Connection. FY 2019 Indirect Cost Rate

The Office of School Finance is now accepting FY 2019 Indirect Cost Rate Applications through June 30. 2018 Annual Budget Workshop

Please read the attached memo regarding the June 27 School Budget Workshop. This event will be held at the Pike Performing Arts Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. (local time). Form 9 ESSA Guidance

The Indiana Department of Education has issued guidance for Indiana Local Education Agencies (LEAs) federal reporting requirement under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and Indiana state law. This resource provides Indiana LEAs with an overview of state and federal reporting requirements for school building level data beginning July 1. Information on ESSA reporting requirements can be found in the ESSA folder in the Finance Community of the Learning Connection. Please send questions here.

School Intervention and Career Counseling Development Fund

Grant applications are now available for school corporations interested in financial support for partial payment of a full-time school counselor position. Questions should be directed to School Counseling Specialist Amanda Culhan.


Office of Educator Effectiveness 

Reminder: Teacher of the Year Applications Are Due July 9

Indiana Teacher of the Year applications must be submitted no later than July 9. Please make certain all of our deserving educators are nominated. Send questions to Chris Kates.


Office of Title Grants and Support

2018-2019 Non-English Speaking Program

The 2018-2019 Non-English Speaking Program (NESP) allocations and application are now available. Additional supporting resources, including instructions for accessing the grant application in DOE Online and a technical assistance video, have also been posted. Note that NESP grant applications are due August 31.

English Learning 101

The Indiana Department of Education English Learning team has released a series of video modules regarding the basics of English Learner programming, including federal requirements, funding opportunities, assessment requirements, and more. Check out the 11 modules and supporting resources that are available now. New to the world of English Learning and interested in learning more? Register for our annual EL Directors’ Meetings at MSD Lawrence Township Schools August 15-16.
