Offender Labor Line Sets Up Bocce Ball Courts
Carlisle, Ind.- Today offenders from Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) set up the Bocce Ball Courts for the Summer Games for Special Olympics on the campus of Indiana State University (ISU). Special Olympics Sports Manager Patrick Kozlowski said, "Although bocce ball may be foreign to some, our athletes really enjoy it. We have 110 teams signed up to participate this year." When we were discussing the process involved in setting up the courts Patrick said, "I remember when our staff used to set up the courts. It took us an entire day. I am thankful that WVCF sets up the courts now, so our staff can prepare other venues."
Labor Line Officer Rick Swan and Maintenance Foreman Timothy Squire have assisted with the set up of the courts for eight years now. Officer Swan's labor line travels to Terre haute, while Maintenance Foreman Squire transports the courts. He then helps the offenders with the assembly. Maintenance Foreman Squire said, "Setting up the courts may sound like a simple task, but there is a lot that goes into making sure the courts are spaced appropriately, level, and square."
