WVCF Shows Their Support for Special Olympics
Carlisle, Ind.- Members of the Emergency Squad at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) participated in the Special Olympics Torch Run on Friday, June 4th to show our support. E-squad Field Commander Everado Angelesemora presented a donation check for $1,000 on behalf of WVCF as well. Each year Special Olympics hosts a torch run as part of the Summer Games that athletes across the tri-state area come to participate in.
Special Olympics Vice President of Development Scott Furnish said, "We were thrilled to be back on the campus of Indiana State University for the 2021 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Indiana. It was incredible to see so many law enforcement agencies participate in carrying the “Flame of Hope” into Terre Haute and lighting the Olympic cauldron. It was a great way to kick off the 2021 Summer Games, and highlight our partner agencies that raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics movement. The 2021 Summer Games represent an important return to in-person sports, programs and activities for our athletes. The theme for the Summer Games this year is “Be Brave” an homage to the Special Olympics oath (“Let me Win. But if I cannot win let me be brave in the attempt.”) and a challenge to all those willing and able to safely return to the playing field this year."
