PLUS Program Give Back to Families in Need
Carlisle, Ind.- Offenders in the Purposeful Living Unit Serve (PLUS) Program at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility made quilts and stockings for families in need this holiday season. Holly Mullenix of Big Brothers Big Sisters said, "The quilts are amazing. Our BBBS families look forward to them every year."
PLUS is a reformative faith and character-based program that encourages participants to find alternatives to criminal thinking and behaviors. Participants work together complete course work and community service projects as part of the PLUS curriculum.
PLUS Program Coordinator Michelle McNeely said, "We hope the lap quilts and stockings add a little extra joy to the children that will be receiving them."
Offender Mitchell Swallows who assisted in this project said, "This is approximately the 10th year the men of PLUS have had the honor of providing lap quilts and Christmas stockings to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. As the Project Manager of the sewing program, it is an absolute joy to see the excitement and pride in the eyes of the men when I tell them how the Big Brothers Big Sisters delivers the quilts and stockings to the Little Bothers and Little Sisters. This is truly what giving back is all about."
