Wabash Valley Correctional Facility

Announces Staff Promotion

Carlisle, Ind. - Please join Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) as we congratulate Katie Fischer on her promotion to Unit Team Manager.

Katie began her career with the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) as a Correctional Officer at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) in 2007.  In 2013 she was promoted to Correctional Caseworker.  Katie did not stop there though.  She continued to work hard to excel in her new position.  Her efforts were recognized when she was promoted to Casework Manager in 2015. During her time with the unit team Katie has worked a variety of units on both North and South side, as well as the Restricted Status Housing Unit.

In addition to her experience, Katie holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.  She is also a certified instructor for Motivational Interviewing and was among a select few that were chosen to attend the Carey Group Master Academy.  She is now a Carey Guide Brief Intervention Tools (BITS) Train the Trainer.  Katie holds the position of Co-Chair on the facility's staffing committee as well, a position which comes with several responsibilities.

Deputy Warden of Re-Entry Kevin Gilmore said, "Katie is a great team player and always willing to help other staff and departments as needed.  She believes in evidence based practices, and utilizes evidence based tools to help offenders learn new skills that enhance their ability to make a successful transition from prison to community."
