First Graduates of the Recovery Coaches Program
Michigan City, Ind. - Indiana State Prison Warden Ron Neal recently announced the graduation of the first class of Recovery Coaches at Indiana State Prison - Minimum Security (ISO) facility. A peer recovery coach is a person who has experience in receiving services and/or support for a substance abuse condition. They serve as a guide to initiate, achieve, and sustain long-term recovery from addiction, including 12 step programs and other pathways to recovery.
The new recovery coaches at ISO will be facilitating the 12 step program meetings and will also help peers with the Recovery Wellness Guide to aid in locating resources to achieve their goal of living a life free of substance abuse. Each recovery coach serves as a positive role model within their housing dorm and sets the example for others to seek recovery as well.
"These men dedicated themselves to complete this training in the midst of the pandemic", said Warden Neal. "They have been working with their own recovery and have been successful inspiring others to also seek recovery." Warden Neal concluded, "This is training and experience that makes them employable as Recovery Coaches upon re-entry to society; a much needed position in and outside of prison."
