Warden Stanley Knight Concludes Four Decade Career

Plainfield, Ind. - Today marks the last day of service for retiring Warden Stanley Knight, whose career has spanned four decades of public safety service in three different states.

Stanley Knight initially started his career in 1980 with the Iowa Department of Corrections at the Clarinda Correctional Facility located in Clarinda, Iowa.  After several years of service in Iowa he joined the Kansas Department of Corrections in 1986 to work as a Unit Team Manager at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

Warden Knight's desire to advance his correctional career brought him to the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) in 1993 when he accepted an offer to serve as the Assistant Warden of the Secured Housing Unit at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, Indiana.  In the year 2000 his career continued to advance his appointment as Superintendent of the now closed Henryville Correctional Facility.

Over the remainder of Warden Knight's 27 years of service with the IDOC he was a warden at six of the 21 Indiana correctional facilities and also served as an Executive Director of Adult Facilities and as Interim Deputy Commissioner of Operations.  His last assignment, made in May of 2015, was to serve as warden at the Plainfield Correctional Facility, located in Plainfield, Indiana.

When asked about his retirement plans Mr. Knight commented he is looking forward to volunteer work at his church and also plans to volunteer at the Indianapolis Zoo. He also expressed his desire to spend a lot more time with his four-legged companions, Sam and Max, as well as more quality time with his wife of 30 years, Wendy.

Mr. Knight commented “When I reflect back on my years, I realize I have had a blessed career, and am truly grateful for all the opportunities that shaped me into the person I am today.”

Staff at the Plainfield Correctional Facility offered Warden Knight well wishes in his retirement and appreciation for his years of dedicated service with a retirement luncheon held earlier this afternoon.
