Indiana State Prison Offender Fire Department Makes Donation to Michigan City Fire Department
Michigan City, Ind. - The Indiana State Prison offender firefighters recently donated $2,192 to the Michigan City Fire Department. The monies were raised by selling wristbands to the offender population as well as to staff at the Indiana State Prison during the October 2019 Fire Prevention Week fundraiser.
The Indiana State Prison has 17 Offenders who have completed training with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and earned Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications. Each offender focused on earning this certification as part of their rehabilitation and to demonstrate a commitment to service. Participating in the charity fundraising event was a meaningful way for the Indiana State Prison’s offender firefighters to give back to the greater community.
