Plainfield Correctional Facility
staff awarded Courage Award during COVID-19

Plainfield, Ind. - Plainfield Correctional Facility and Warden Stan Knight are proud to present Captain Nicole Wilson the Courage Award for her quick and educated responses during COVID-19.

Captain Wilson currently serves as a shift supervisor at Plainfield Correctional Facilty. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, she has worked extremely hard to keep her staff informed of all the changes the facility and department has implemented in response to rapidly changing climate of the pandemic.

In the first days, knowing communications and education is key during COVID-19, Captain Wilson began making extra rounds to check on her staff.  Additionally, when masks were initially in short supply nationwide, she purchased cloth masks for her entire shift to ensure they felt safe and comfortable at work.

As the COVID-19 response evolved, Captain Wilson implemented a process for laundry and chemical exchange for isolation and quarantine rooms to make certain staff and offenders had the necessary cleaning supplies for sanitation. Additionally, she worked with facility executive staff to facilitate safe offender moves, soap and sanitizer distribution, and modified commissary distribution. Captain Wilson was also the primary contact in times when larger teams entered the facility to clean and sanitize housing united.

This is only a small part of what Captain Wilson has accomplished during this unusual time. Her leadership and decision making ability has enabled not only her shift, but other subsequent shifts, to raise the standard and preform remarkably during the pandemic.
