Madison Correctional Facility Continues to
Slow the Spread of COVID-19

Madison, IN – Staff and offenders at Madison Correctional Facility have been helping to slow the spread of COVID-19 at the facility and in the community.

Madison Correctional Facility staff and offenders are working together to flatten the curve and keep everyone safe.  Offenders from all over the facility volunteered to sew masks and a crew of 15 offenders was formed.  With donated materials, over 4000 masks have been made. Every staff member and every offender has been given two masks.  In addition, masks have been donated to the local Boys and Girls Club, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and Dispatch and to Veteran's Affairs.

Warden Jan Davis stated, “The Madison Correctional Facility wants to thank those in the community who have generously donated materials allowing us to make these much needed masks.”

Additionally, custody staff are supervising offender cleaning crews on six hour rotations that are working 24/7 in order to sanitize commonly touched areas, such as:  door handles, phones and desks. The sanitation crews also provide regular daily cleaning of housing units and high traffic areas in the facility.  All staff and offenders are required to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).  Soap is made available to the offender population and is being replenished often during this time.  Alcohol based hand sanitizer has been made available to all staff and offenders, including staff offices and housing entry points.

Furthermore, upon arrival at the facility there are signs at the front entrance reminding staff, “If sick, stay home”. All staff must:

  • Wear a face mask;
  • Practice social distancing;
  • Pass symptom screening questionnaire;
  • Pass temperature check.

Staff showing symptoms are encouraged to get tested and are not allowed to return to work until they meet the CDC guidelines for return.

Warden Jan Davis stated, "I am proud of our team at Madison Correctional Facility for coming to work each day during this time and keeping staff and offenders safe.  Everyone has pitched in to keep things running smoothly even if it is outside their usual job duties.  Staff are finding ways to keep the offenders engaged and motivated.  Staff and offenders are doing everything they can to keep this virus out of the facility."
