Local Churches Donate to Officer Breann Leath Memorial
Maternal-Child Health Unit

Indianapolis, Ind. - Yesterday, the Indiana Youth for Christ Organization and the Chapel Rock Christian Church generously donated supplies to the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit. With the growing numbers of mothers admitted to the unit and many recent births, the need for supplies has grown exponentially and the program

The Indiana Youth for Christ Organization reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local churches and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to prayer and the Word of God. The mission of the Chapel Rock Christian Church is to be disciples of Jesus and be in a constant process of becoming whole and helping others in our community do that too.

Given the shortage of items in stores due to the coronavirus, the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit has been accepting donations of diapers, wipes, formula, and other baby items. The pregnant women and mothers in the unit have been so overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the Indiana Youth for Christ organization and Chapel Rock Christian Church and have made cards of thanks to show their gratitude to the congregation.

The Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit is a unique experience with the goal of building strong families by allowing eligible incarcerated pregnant mothers to keep their infants with them until release. Since its inception, the program has admitted over 300 pregnant offenders and reunited over 200 infants with their mothers after delivery. The Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit encourages the preservation of family by providing incarcerated mothers and their children a meaningful transition into the community, utilizing a holistic approach for the continuum of care by recognizing the mother's strengths and barriers to social determinants of health.
