Miami Correctional Facility’s Oakland City University Staff Being Innovative
Bunker Hill, Ind. – Miami Correctional Facility’s (MCF) Oakland City University (OCU) staff, thinking outside the box to keep education materials available to the men at MCF. During this time of uncertainty and changing the way we do things it can be challenging to help offenders meet their educational goals. The OCU staff at MCF have stepped up to the challenge. OCU staff have put together an Education Cart for the 'D Housing Unit' (DHU) which is where the men in the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) Program reside. Currently DHU has 160 men working towards achieving the TASC. This cart has self-study materials, including reading, math, social studies, science and writing worksheets. The resources are set up daily for the offender students to have access to study materials to continue to work towards there TASC certification. Teachers will make sure that the cart stays loaded with updated materials and supplies until the students can return to face to face classes.
Deputy Warden Sharon Hawk commented “I am very proud of our TASC Program at MCF and the teachers who work in this program. They show their dedication every day. This is just another example of how much they care about what they do for the men in our facility. I want to say thank you to all of them for being a member of the MCF team.”
