Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Staff
Receive Scholarships

Carlisle, Ind. - Two staff members at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility will see that their college dreams will take one step forward with some assistance from the Correctional Professionals Assistance Fund of Indiana (CPAFI). Jack Hendrix, Board Member CPAFI, and Warden Richard Brown graciously presented both staff members their awards. CPAFI has recently celebrated it's tenth year anniversary.

Correctional Officer Tawni Miller was presented a check in the amount of $3,000 to be applied towards her degree. This scholarship is awarded on behalf of the Rose Vaisvilas Public Service Scholarship. Rose Vaisvilas was a well respected Director of Medical Services for the Department of Corrections (DOC) and was an individual who stood out amongst others in her field. Tawni's application and dedication towards her future was relative to that of Rose's career in the DOC. Tawni is currently working towards her Human Resources Degree and is attending Ivy Tech in Terre Haute. Tawni graduated in the fall of 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Her future plan is to return to St. Mary of the Woods in Terre Haute to work on her Master's Degree.

Registered Nurse Anne Conner was also presented a scholarship from CPAFI in the amount of $1,000 to be applied towards her degree. This scholarship was awarded as part of the Part-Time Student Scholarship. Anne is a Registered Nurse and is currently attending the University of Southern Indiana (USI) to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Anne currently works at the facility for the contractor Wexford who provides medical care to the offender population. Health Services Administrator (HSA) Kim Hobson commented, "Anne is a hard worker and I am proud of her for working to better herself and her career. We support her 100%. This scholarship is well deserved."
