Fatal crash involving cyclist
Carmel Police responded to a crash between a vehicle and a cyclist at W. Main Street and Towne Road on Friday, May 3. The cyclist later died at a nearby hospital.
Officers along with Carmel Fire Department (CFD) responded at 10:19 a.m. CFD medics transported the cyclist, Gioacchino Mutone, an 85-year-old male, to a nearby hospital. The Carmel Police Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct the investigation. Mutone died at the hospital later that afternoon.
Preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle driven by a juvenile male was traveling south on Towne Road, turning west onto W. Main Street. The cyclist was traveling south along Towne Road on the multi-purpose path. As the cyclist began crossing W. Main, continuing south, he was struck by the vehicle.
This investigation is ongoing and being led by the CPD Accident Investigation Team.
