Severe Weather Preparedness
CARMEL, IN - It is time to prepare for severe weather season, and Governor Eric Holcomb proclaimed March 12 - 18, 2023, to be Severe Weather Preparedness Week. The statewide tornado drill is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, at approximately 10:15 a.m. To prepare for the drill, Hamilton County Emergency Management will resume the weekly sounding of the outdoor warning sirens on Friday, March 10, at 11 a.m.
“The outdoor warning sirens are intended to warn those who are outdoors. Because sirens are not intended to warn those indoors, we recommend that every household and business have a weather radio,” said Executive Director of Emergency Management Shane Booker. Knowing what to do and where to go starts by understanding a watch vs. a warning. A watch means it is time to get ready, and a warning means take action. The three key elements of being prepared for any emergency or disaster are making a plan, building a disaster kit, and staying informed by downloading the Emergency Management App at https://apps.myocv.com/share/a14846034 along with having a weather radio.
