Welcome to Another Year of Poetry Out Loud!
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program for high school students that encourages the study of poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. The program helps students master public speaking skills and build self-confidence, while also learning more about both classic and contemporary poetry.
High school educators can host competitions within the classrooms, or if a school is not hosting Poetry Out Loud, students can compete indivually. Educators who host a Poetry Out Loud competition are eligible to receive a $100 stipend.
The Indiana Poetry Out Loud state competition will be held in March 2023. The champion will advance to the national finals, to take place in May 2023, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. Learn more about Poetry Out Loud and the competition process.
Writing Workshops Available For Participating Schools
For the first time, participating schools are eligible to apply for a free Writing Workshop hosted by an Indiana writer through a collaboration with the Indiana Authors Awards and Indiana Humanities. Applications for the workshops are open now and will close on September 16th. Learn more and apply for a workshop.
