Jack Becker to keynote Community Canvas workshop

Public artist, arts administrator, and veterans consultant Jack Becker will be the keynote speaker at the Community Canvas Public Art Workshop Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Union in Indianapolis. Becker founded Forecast Public Art in 1978, and now serves as director of Forecast's Community Services Program. Available space for the workshop is limited. Register now.

Inaugural On-Ramp Cohort represent varied disciplines

Thirty-six Hoosier artists have been selected to participate in the Indiana Arts Commission's inaugural On-Ramp accelerator program for early career creative entrepreneurs. The three-day course workshop, led by Elaine Grogan Luttrul, will be May 18 - 20, 2018 in Madison, Indiana, and will focus on developing business skills, career goals, and community engagement learning. Columbus Area Arts Council to host Meet the Author event

The Columbus Area Arts Council will host Meet the Author and Public Talk with John Heminway, to be held at the Columbus Area Visitors Center, May 24, 2018. Heminway is an author and awards-winning filmmaker who has produced and written more than 200 documentaries on subjects as varied as travel, brain science, evolution, and natural history. He has won two Emmys, two Peabody Awards, and a duPont-Columbia Award. A meet the author reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by Heminway's talk at 6 p.m. and an audience Q & A session from 6:45 - 7:15 p.m. Learn more.

New visiting artist program announced at Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis has announced an extraordinary gift from the White Oak Foundation (Sarah and John Lechleiter) - a philanthropic gift that will allow for artists with ties to Indiana to teach about their art to school groups and children and families visiting the world's largest children's museum. Nashville's Village Art Walk changes announced

The Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission recently announced changes to the Village Art Walk. The program is now under the support of the Arts Village Brown County Cultural District, and dates and times for the events have changed. The events will now be held every fourth Friday from 4 - 7 p.m.. Twelve downtown galleries are participating in the event. Learn more.

Study: job search could be prolonged for arts graduates

According to data collected by the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project, based at Indiana University Bloomington, it has become increasingly common over recent decades for arts alumni to experience a prolonged job search after graduation or find initial employment in an unrelated field. The data was published in a recent issue of American Behavioral Scientist titled "Arts Graduates in a Changing Economy." Learn more.
