Traditional Arts Indiana seeks apprenticeship applicants

Traditional Arts Indiana (TAI), in partnership with the Mathers Museum of World Cultures, the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) seeks traditional artists to work one-on-one with apprentices in order to pass on important traditional knowledge within their communities. Up to six apprenticeship parings will be made per year, enabling apprentices to learn essential knowledge and skills in traditional art forms from master artists. The deadline for application is July 1, 2018. To learn more about the program and view the guidelines click here.

Crowdfunding project will help celebrate master folk artists

Master folk artists contribute greatly to the cultural richness of Indiana, but currently there is no program specifically recognizing these tradition-bearers. Traditional Arts Indiana (TAI), a program of the Mathers Museum of World Cultures and the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC), is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and presenting the state's cultural heritage. From April 4 through April 18, TAI will provide a crowdfunding opportunity to help launch a Masters Folk Artists of Indiana program. Modeled after the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) National Heritage Fellowships Award, this Hoosier program will promote the vitality and diversity of cultural traditions in our state.
