Indiana State Poetry Out Loud finals this Saturday

(Indianapolis, Indiana) The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) and the Indiana State Library (ISL) announced today that students representing 18 high schools from all regions of the state will compete February 17, 2018 in the Poetry Out Loud Indiana State Finals.

The 18 students taking part in the 2018 Poetry Out Loud State Finals will include returning competitors Cassidy Burdge from Eagle Tech Academy, Columbia City, Indiana and Joshua Fisher from Warsaw High School in Warsaw, Indiana.

The poetry recitation contest will begin at 9:00 a.m. (EST) at the Indiana State Library, 315 W. Ohio Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.

The state champion receives a $200 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals in April. The state champion's school receives a $500 stipend to purchase poetry books.

The Indiana Arts Commission and the Indiana State Library are partners in presenting the Indiana Poetry Out Loud competition. For more information about the state competition, visit www.in.gov/library/5580.htm.
