shari wagner

In her final public event as Indiana Poet Laureate, Shari Wagner (above) will honor the legacy of Levi and Catherine Coffin, and the hundreds of freedom seekers who found refuge in their home.

The special event Awake to the World: A Poetry Reading, will be Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 1 - 2:30 p.m. (EST) at the Interpretive Center, Levi and Catherine Coffin State Historic Site, 201 U.S. 27 N, Fountain City, Indiana.

Featured poets Angela Jackson-Brown, Muncie; JL Kato, Beech Grove; and Linda Neal Reising and Jessica D. Thompson, New Harmony will share poems related to social and environmental justice.

Tours of the Coffin House will be available before and after the program, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The poetry program is free, but tours of the home are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60+), and $5 for children (3-17).

The event will also commemorate the first year anniversary of the Interpretive Center.

Arts Commission fine tunes artist grant program

The Indiana Arts Commission is expanding the reach of its grant program for individual artists in Indiana. Formally known as the Individual Artist Program, the name has been revised to the "Individual Advancement Program."

The program will now also offer an early career category serving artists who have been pursuing their arts career for less than five years, excluding formal or apprenticeship training in their discipline. These applicants will be reviewed by a separate panel from the ones that review applications from more experienced artists.

Read the full press release.

For more information about the Individual Advancement Program, contact Anna Tragesser, Artist and Community Services Manager, atragesser@iac.in.gov, or call 317-232-1281.
