Martinsville, Indiana resident and art teacher Chapin Schnick (above) has been named the Outstanding Art Educator of the Year by the Art Education Association of Indiana (AEAI).The organization also recognized Schnick as Oustanding Elementary Art Teacher for 2017.
Schnick teaches at Charles L. Smith Fine Arts Academy in Martinsville. In early October, the school was selected as recipient of a $2,500 InstaGrant at the inaugural Indiana Arts Homecoming in Indianapolis. Schnick represented the school at the Arts Homecoming and accepted the award.

November will be a busy month for Indiana State Poet Laureate Shari Wagner as she visits three Indiana schools.
November 16, Shari will join other speakers at Greensburg High School's annual Chautauqua, Greensburg, Indiana. The theme of the event is "Discrimination: Lessons from History." Shari will be reading poetry in the voices of men and women from Indiana history.
November 20, she will visit with AP Literature students at Charlestown High School, Charlestown, Indiana. And November 27, Shari will lead an all-day poetry workshop at Westville Elementary School, Westville, Indiana.

This year, Traditional Arts Indiana (TAI) has revitalized the TAI Apprenticeship Program.
This initiative supports the continuation of cultural practices in Indiana communities by funding up to six apprenticeship pairs each year.
The program enables apprentices to learn essential knowledge and skills in traditional art forms from master artists.
