The inaugural Indiana Arts Homecoming October 4 - 6 is officially a sold-out event. Although currently at attendance capacity, please contact Miah Michaelsen 317-232-1286 for waiting list possibilities.
In addition to informational sessions and panel discussions on the impact of the arts in creative placemaking, arts education, economic development, and future trends, nearly a half-dozen Indiana traditional artists will be sharing their talents with conference attendees.
Music will be provided by Stephen and Nancy Dickey, Orange County. Stephen is the son of legendary musician Lotus Dickey, and represents an important musical tradition in Indiana.
Artist demonstrations will include Miami bead artist Katrina Mitten, Huntington; blacksmith Jason Nickel, Nashville; African-American drum maker Tony Artis, Indianapolis; and hoop net maker Larry Haycraft, Petersburg.
In addition, there will be interactive arts opportunities such as on-the-spot original typewriter poetry compositions by poets Shana Ritter, Bloomington, and Wendy Vergoz, Indianapolis, and visual artist John Morris, Muncie, will assist participants in creating their own Spiro-graph art.
There will also be live screen printing opportunities with Cat Head Press and Herron School of Art + Design students.
Keep watching for announcements soon about next year's Homecoming date and location.
Indiana State Poet Laureate Shari Wagner will host Spirit of the Limberlost: A Celebratory Reading October 14, 2017 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Limberlost State Historic Site, Visitor Center, 200 6th St., Geneva, IN.
Participants from Wagner's three previous Limberlost workshops will read their poems at the free public event. For more information about the event, visit Wagner's Through the Sycamores website.
The Spirit of the Limberlost event, and Wagner's previous workshops are part of the Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites program sponsored by the Indiana Arts Commission and Limberlost Historic Site.
