QL logo

Indiana Humanities announced early this month they received a $300,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to fund One State / One Story: Frankenstein!

Through One State / One Story: Frankenstein, Indiana Humanities will be partnering with a number of organizations and scholars to award Community Read grants; sponsor a statewide speakers bureau; present an immersive weekend retreat; support special courses, exhibits and film festivals at 13 colleges and universities; host an Indiana Sci-Fi and Horror Writers Festival; and kick the program off September 30, 2017 with a one-of-a-kind free read-a-thon and festival at the Indiana Medical History Museum called Frankenfest.

Why Frankenstein? Published in 1818, Mary Shelley's novel raises big questions about the practice of science and its role in society. Questions about right and wrong, how we understand ourselves in relation to the world around us, and how we explore the relationship between science and society.
