Batesville activated a large downtown parking lot

In July 2014 Batesville Main Street and the City of Batesville were awarded an Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs $5,569 downtown revitalization grant for a streetscape project.

5 Lessons Learned from the Field

Creative placemaking is all about building relationships. Use these five tips to get started!

  1. Get out of the office.
  2. Introduce yourself to anyone and everyone who will talk to you.
  3. When you hear "no", don't give up. Try again later.
  4. Be personal and allow yourself to be vulnerable.
  5. Visit people in their place of work, or schedule visits to schools, churches, and community centers.

Communities that attended From the Ground Up are eligible to apply for a 50 hour consultancy that supports the next step in their creative placemaking process. The consultant will spend the majority of his or her time on site in the community to support the project.
