☕ Happy September, Records Managers! ☕
Welcome to National Pumpkin Spice Latte Month!
Okay, fine, that might not be official yet. But the month of September already contains National Chai Day, National Coffee Day, National Chocolate Milkshake Day, and National Coffee Ice Cream Day, so it's only a matter of time.
I won't lie; I miss the PSL and wish they were available in a sugar-free version*. |
*that doesn't rely on me ordering a skinny vanilla and bringing my own bottle of syrup.
Last Month's Chat
On MS Teams, we had our August Records Managers Chat. We met with 20 Records Managers from 18 agencies!
Attending from IARA were Amy Christiansen (County/Local RM Liaison), Amy Robinson (State Records Analyst), Jeannine Roe (Electronic Records Archivist), and Sam Putnam (Records Center Director).
We discussed August's bulletin topics, which were "Records Management in the News*" and "How IARA chooses who gets a retention schedule update, and when."
I've posted a link to the YouTube video of the August chat in our RM Bulletins and Chat Archive, where you can also find all of the previous bulletins we've sent out.
*Summary: the IRS needs more employees and the National Archives doesn't mess around.
News You Can Use
I'll be away again this month, but this time it's only for three days, and I'll be back just in time for our September RM Chat on the 29th. Executive Director Chandler Lighty, Electronic Records Archivist Jeannine Roe and I will be in Nashville at the Best Practices Exchange conference and Council of State Archivists Annual Meeting. There, we hope to find out what our colleagues in other states are up to, and learn new records management and archival solutions that we can bring back and apply to you!* |
|
|
*On re-reading, that looks more ominous than intended. All records management solutions will be peer-reviewed, monitored for health and safety violations, and only administered to willing test subjects. |
||
Other News You Can Use: The date of the next Oversight Committee on Public Records meeting is October 28th. * *There won't be a meeting in September this year, because see above. |
News You Can't Use
Your humble records analyst just received her Government Archives and Records Management Administration certificate from NAGARA, the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators. It sounds impressive* until you read the fine print.
*Probably not, but let's pretend.

RM Topic of the Month: IARA's New Electronic Records Archivist*
Welcome Aboard to Anna Lucas!
Anna is the newest addition to our Records Management Team. She recently relocated to Indianapolis from State College, PA where she worked at as a Digital Archivist at Penn State University. Anna graduated from Indiana University with a Masters in Library Science and is happy to be back in the Hoosier state working with IARA. She will be participating in future Records Managers Chats and is eager to take any of your records management questions regarding electronic records.
*In addition to Jeannine. Not instead. Never instead.
September Records Managers Chat
Our next Records Managers Chat will be happening on September 29th. *
*There's no footnote. I just didn't want this section to feel left out.

About the Meeting
This 30-minute meetup is an informal setting in which to ask questions or talk about records management concerns; normally I'll begin by introducing any IARA colleagues attending, talk a bit about the topic of the monthly bulletin and make any announcements, then open things up for questions and discussion.
I've included an agenda to help keep me us all on topic, so there'll be plenty of time for your questions and records management discussion once Amy remembers to click Mute!
