IARA County/Local Records Management - Insurance Records

Hello County/Local Agencies,

Many of you have asked about insurance policies and what record series those fall under.

In the County/Local General (GEN) retention schedule, insurance policies and other insurance related records (except Forms 350 & 351) are covered under GEN 10-25. See record series below:

Insurance policies are considered contracts and thus, after reviewing other record series in the GEN schedule, IARA's Records Management division has determined that GEN 10-25 is the best fit for insurance records, except for Forms 350 & 351, which have their own record series, GEN 10-24. 

I've contacted many of you who inquired about insurance records to let you know about the update to Record Series assignments for these records, but here’s the information for everyone: use GEN 10-25 for insurance policies and other insurance related records, and GEN 10-24 only for Forms 350 & 351.

We apologize for any previous confusion on this score; IARA has recently re- examined and determined our final interpretation for the two different Record Series.
