IARA County/Local Records Management - Electronic Records Policy Updates

Hello Clerks and staff,
Earlier this year, IARA introduced two updated policies intended to help you better manage your electronic records. These policies both replace policies 06-01 and 12-01 and were effective on January 15, 2020.
- Policy 20-01: Electronic Records Retention and Disposition: provides high level guidance regarding transfer to the Indiana Archives, agency retention of records, and destruction of both born digital and digitized records.
- Policy 20-02: Electronic Records Technical Standards: provides detailed guidance for the management and maintenance of born digital, digitized, and critical records.
IARA plans to release more detailed guidance soon that will cover areas such as Microsoft Office 365, social media, and chat clients. In the meantime, if you have questions about electronic records or the above policies please get in touch at erecords@iara.in.gov.
