Flooding Conditions Status Update
The last week of dry weather, after the large amount of rain received the week of April 13, has helped Lake County start to recover from high river levels in areas, but there is more rain in the forecast. Currently, there is about an inch of rain in the forecast for today.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight, with the possibility of some severe weather. The amount of rain we get tonight and where it falls could have an impact and potentially increase river levels. Information about weather forecasts, watches, warnings and advisories can be found at the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office Chicago.
We’re closely monitoring the situation and river levels. Additional information and details will be shared as they’re available.
Fox River & Chain O’Lakes Area
The Upper Fox River, Chain O’Lakes and Lower Fox River areas in Lake County have dropped to Moderate Flood status. The lowering of river levels could be delayed further based on the amount of rain received. The water levels of the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes could remain high for a week or two before lowering.
There continues to be a threat of flood impacts to businesses and properties in these areas. Please stay alert if you’re located in a flood-prone area.
Des Plaines River Area
The Des Plaines River near the Wisconsin state line, Gurnee, and Lincolnshire areas has dropped out of flood status, but could be affected by the rain today.
