Flooding Conditions Status Update
Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) remains at Red Flood Threat Alert Status. Major Flooding is occurring in Lake County, concentrated along the Upper Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area along with the Lower Fox River in the Barrington area and includes substantial flooding in multiple areas.
There is a chance of scattered showers today, with limited rainfall, but the bigger concern is a storm forecast for Monday. It brings the potential of 1 to 1.5 inches of rain across the county, which could possibly extend flooding and increase it in areas already impacted. Information about weather forecasts, watches, warnings and advisories can be found at the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office Chicago.
We’re continuing to closely monitor the situation and river levels, but we do not anticipate providing another update until Monday. Additional information and details will be shared then.
Please note, Lake County sent out a guide to post-flooding actions for residents.
Fox River & Chain O’Lakes Area
The Upper Fox River, Chain O’Lakes, and Lower Fox River areas in Lake County continue to be in Major Flood status. All of these areas appear to have peaked, but water levels have plateaued with only minimal lowering. The lowering of river levels could be delayed further based on the amount of rain received on Monday.
There continues to be a threat of flood impacts to businesses and properties in these areas. Please stay alert if you’re located in a flood-prone area.
The water levels of the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes could remain high for a week or two before lowering.
Des Plaines River Area
The Des Plaines River near the Wisconsin state line, Gurnee, and Lincolnshire areas has dropped into Minor Flood status. This river could lower out of flood status by late Sunday into Monday but could be affected by the rain on Monday.
