Flooding Conditions Status Update
Flooding continues in Lake County. The Fox River, Chain O’Lakes and Des Plaines areas continue to see effects from last week’s high rain.
We’re closely monitoring the situation and river levels. Additional information and details will be shared as they’re available.
Fox River & Chain O’Lakes Area
Portions of the Upper Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area are expected to peak on Wednesday just under Major Flood status. The peak is currently estimated to not reach July 2017 flood levels, staying about half a foot lower than record highs. However, flooding is substantial in areas, and it is possible the Upper Fox River and Chain O’Lakes area could reach Major Flood status.
There is a threat of flood impacts to downtown Fox Lake and properties in the area. Please stay alert if you’re located in a flood-prone area.
The Lower Fox River in the Barrington area is entering Major Flood status today. The river level is expected to peak on Tuesday into Wednesday.
The water levels of the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes could remain high for a week or two before lowering.
Des Plaines River Area
There is some relief in the Gurnee area along the Des Plaines where the river level peaked yesterday. It is still in Moderate Flood status but has begun to slowly lower. It should reach Minor Flood status on Wednesday.
In Lincolnshire, the river appears to have reached its peak today. It is still in Moderate Flood status but is anticipated to drop to a Minor Flood on Wednesday.
