The State of Illinois is implementing the new Illinois Disease Surveillance System (IDSS) to replace I-NEDSS for infectious disease reporting and surveillance. The system is set to have two releases, with STIs and TB covered under the first release on March 4, 2024, and all other communicable diseases and conditions covered under the second release in Summer 2024.
What does this mean for providers?
- During the transition from I-NEDSS to IDSS, providers who enter multiple disease types (STIs, TB, and other diseases) will need to utilize both systems (IDSS and I-NEDSS) until complete system implementation in Summer 2024. STIs and TB will be reported in IDSS at the time of Release 1, whereas any other diseases will be reported in I-NEDSS until complete IDSS implementation at Release 2.
-
Electronic laboratory reports (ELRs) will be automatically transferred into the new system.
Will I immediately have access to the new system?
- Providers who were active users of I-NEDSS in 2023 were identified and should be automatically transferred into the new system and contacted via email. Those providers received an email on January 17 (subject: “IDSS Replacing I-NEDSS: User Access”) indicating their automatic transfer into IDSS.
- Users who were not identified as active users, but wish to be automatically transferred into the new system, can do so by completing the IDSS Access Request Form by February 7, 2024: https://forms.office.com/e/aFYQWbKX9U.
- These IDPH resources provide more information on user access for providers:
What to expect next?
- Providers will continue to receive progress and timeline updates via email, SIREN, and the IDSS Info Page in the IDPH Web Portal: https://dph.partner.illinois.gov/Pages/Default.aspx
- As we approach system release, providers will also have access to training videos and reference guides to assist with the transition.
- Details on requesting IDSS access for providers who are not automatically transferred and who did not previously have I-NEDSS access will be disseminated at a later date.
