Spring Newsletter: Projects Starting Soon, Summer Water Restrictions, and More

Spring weather is here which means Lake County Public Works (LCPW) is gearing up for what will be a very busy project season. Read below to learn more about some of the capital infrastructure improvements we are working on this year, along with a few other reminders.

Summer Water Restrictions Begin May 15

From May 15 to Sept. 15 of each year, County ordinance prohibits the use of water for outside and landscaping purposes between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. In addition, outside water use is restricted to certain days of the week. Even numbered addresses can use outside water on even numbered days, and odd numbered addresses on odd days. Typically, as we move into the later parts of summer, we have much hotter and drier conditions, which may lead to additional water-use restrictions.

Capital Improvement Projects Starting Soon

Hawthorn Hills Square Shopping Center Water Main Replacement
Replacing water main pipes that have a history of breaks and water service disruptions at the Hawthorn Hills Square shopping center, which is located at the southwest corner of IL 60 and IL 21. The project begins in June and will take approximately eight weeks to complete. Project website.

Park West Townhome Water Main Rehabilitation
Installation of pipe lining in the existing cast iron pipe water main that was installed when the subdivision was built. Pipe lining is a flexible tube that is inserted inside an existing pipe, inflated, and cured – resulting in a “pipe within a pipe.” This technology allows aging pipes to be used for 50-years longer or more. The project begins in May and will take approximately six months to complete. Project website.

Water Tower Rehabilitation: Prairie Pointe
Rehabilitating the water tower in the Prairie Pointe subdivision located in Round Lake this spring. Work on this 400,000 gallon elevated water tank includes painting and drainage improvements. There will be no interruption to water service. Construction has begun and will last for about three months. Project Website.

Wilson and Rollins Road Drop Chamber
Rehabilitating the 50-year-old sanitary sewer infrastructure under the Wilson and Rollins Road intersection in Ingleside. The contractor will work in the northeast corner of the intersection, which will require new travel patterns. Construction begins in May and will take approximately three months to complete.
