Update on Lake County Administrator Search
Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart is pleased to announce that the County will enter into contract negotiations with William T. Panos to become Lake County’s next County Administrator. Mr. Panos has experience in both the private and public sector, most recently serving as the Director of the State of Wyoming Department of Transportation, an organization with 2,000 employees and a budget of $640 million. He has also served as the Operations and Infrastructure Director for the City and Port of West Sacramento, California and State Construction Executive with the State of Washington. Mr. Panos has a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science from California State University.

Mr. Panos was a Board Member for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and in 2018 was awarded a Henry Toll Fellowship from the Council of State Governments.
Chair Hart stated, “Bill Panos brings a great deal of experience leading large, complex organizations. He impressed us with his leadership style and approach to collaboration and cooperation with Board Members, stakeholders, employees and residents.”
While serving with the City and Port of West Sacramento, he created partnerships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Maritime Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to design and complete a $400 million infrastructure investment to improve community flood protection and economic development.
At the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Mr. Panos instituted numerous innovative driver and highway safety initiatives that increased public awareness and reduced vehicle crashes. Under his leadership, the agency constructed 3,000 miles of traffic safety improvements, improved freight movement, deployed connected vehicle technologies, and provided leadership to the Governor’s Council on Impaired Driving. By 2018, his proactive efforts removed 2,400 impaired drivers from Wyoming highways and reduced highway fatalities by 20%.
"I thank Chair Hart and the Lake County Board Members for their faith in me and for the opportunity to serve," Panos said. “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to help lead this amazing organization and serve the public as we work together on building communities and quality of life.”
The County received 44 applications for the County Administrator position and interviewed candidates in late May and early June. Mr. Panos is expected to begin his new role in July 2019, pending approval by the board.
