November 2018 Election

Ballot order lottery

A public lottery was held in the lobby of the Lake County Courthouse and Administrative Complex to determine the order of the political parties on November's ballot.  Brian McClain, Lake County Facility Operations, drew from our patriotic basket to determine which party will be listed first. Watch the video.

Independent and new political party candidates seeking a county office and wishing to appear on the November 2018 ballot may circulate their nomination petition papers for signatures until June 25, 2018.

Candidates may visit LakeCandidatePower.info to download courtesy petition packets or pick up copies at our office during weekday hours of 8:30 am to 5 pm. New political parties are no longer required to file a full slate of candidates.

Lake County offices to be elected in November include county clerk; sheriff; treasurer; regional superintendent of schools; county board member for districts 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21; and North Shore Water Reclamation District trustee for wards 3 and 5.

Nomination papers and Statement of Economic Interests forms are filed at the clerk’s office from June 18 to 25, 2018.

Solicitor Regsitration and Certificate

Door-to-door sales people working in unincorporated Lake County must carry a solicitor’s certificate while on the job.

Every solicitor must:

  • Register annually in-person with our office. Registration is free.
  • Work only between the hours of 11 am and 7 pm.
  • Carry his/her own Certificate of Registration bearing the sales person’s name, employer’s name, manufacturer’s name, type of business, and our embossed seal.
  • Observe any “No Solicitation” signs.
  • Respect your request if asked to leave.

If a solicitor comes to your door, ask to see the certificate before conducting any business. You may report unregistered vendors to the Lake County Sheriff’s office (847.549.5200).

This ordinance applies only to unincorporated Lake County and provides exemptions for religious groups, candidates, and minors under the age of eighteen who participate in fundraising activities. If you live in a municipality or village, check with your local officials for your specific ordinances.

Property Tax Bills

Property Tax Bills

All property tax bill calculations have been completed by the clerk’s Tax Extension and Redemption Department and delivered to the treasurer’s office ahead of schedule. The treasurer is now able to apply all the tax prepayments made by Lake County’s property owners in 2017 to the tax bills going out this month.

Lake County Center for Independent Living

At the hands-on session held at the Lake County Center for Independent Living in Mundelein, attendees were able to practice using the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ballot-marking devices to vote for their favorite sport, color, and ice cream. The ballot-marking system allows voters who are visually or physically impaired to mark a ballot unassisted by using the equipment's audio, touch-screen, or braille features.

Lake County Center for Independent Living, serves Lake and McHenry residents and ensures that all people with disabilities have the tools they need to live independently.
