Our Lake County Forest Preserves District (LCFPD) owns and manages - on your behalf - over 30,000 acres of prairies, forests, wetlands and more. As a LCFPD commissioner, I participated in detailed budget policy meetings recently. We worked for hours - sometimes word-by-word - improving policies to guide fiscally responsible use of taxpayer dollars. Like the County, LCFPD works with a balanced budget and the AAA bond rating. This round of planming is a bit more complex because the LCFPD is moving to a calendar year/fiscal year to be more transparent about the annual match of calendar year revenue and expenditurese
Capital planning.is a key component of multi-year budget and long term planning for organizational sustainability. Lakewood Forest Preserve, here in the 10th district, will experience the largest capital improvements in the months ahead. The concept planning provides for maximum operating efficiency and new opportunities for use of the open land. Stay tuned and become involved in the future meetings to gather citizen comments.
On the topic of Forest Preserves - please see the information below, use the links for more news and...don't forget to reserve a shelter for family, neighbor and business picnics and outings.
Finally, it's not possible to overlook the tragic irony of Valentine Day, the school victims, heroes and killer. It's a right time to talk about mental health, weapons, access, parent/guardian responsibility, see/say something and more. Parkland is not hundreds of miles away. It's as close as the nearest school, mall or house of worship. Thank goodness for the responsible Grandma in Everett, Washington.
As always, call or email me with questions, suggestions and concerns.
