Sheriff Curran Invites Residents to Participate in Citizen Police Academy

Lake County Sheriff Mark C. Curran, Jr. is inviting residents to participate in the Sheriff’s upcoming Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy course begins March 8, 2018 and runs through May 17, 2018.  The opportunity to see first-hand how the Sheriff’s Office maintains law and order for the residents of Lake County is the foundation of the curriculum.

The academy is a 10-week program with classes running approximately three hours each Thursday evening.  Classes begin at 6:30 PM.  Instruction is provided by sworn deputies and civilians in their field of expertise and is designed to provide a hands-on understanding of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.  Training will take place at the various Sheriff’s Office facilities throughout the county, including the Lake County Courthouse and Lake County Jail located in Waukegan, as well as the Highway Patrol Division located in Libertyville. Upon completion of the course, graduates receive a diploma. Graduation is set for May 17, 2018.

The academy is offered free of charge to Lake County residents.  Participants must be 21 years of age or older, be of good moral character, and have no felony convictions.  Applications are available online or at the Lake County Sheriff’s Administration Office located at 25 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan. The application deadline is February 26, 2018.  For further information contact Deputy Roman Buchberger at 847-377-4211.
