The Lake County Board recently approved the FY2018 annual budget that spends $437 million to fund core services. I voted against the budget primarily because it increased the County’s portion of the property tax levy. The 2018 budget is up less than 2% from last year.
I don’t take voting against the budget lightly, as I believe we provide many essential services in a cost-effective way to our residents. Many of the departments are run well, but we need to look for the most efficient ways to achieve the operational excellence you deserve, instead of raising taxes in this economy. Approximately one-third of our budget, or about $160 million comes from property taxes. While the County portion of your tax bill is 7%, I consistently hear from residents that they want tax relief.
It is a pleasure serving the district. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me. I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Judy Martini Lake County Board Member, District 5
