Automatic voter registration

Governor Rauner recently signed the Automatic Voter Registration Bill which will become effective July 1, 2018. Citizens transacting business at the Department of Motor Vehicles will automatically have voter registration information submitted.

    Love is forever young

Once upon a time, two Lake County nursing home residents fell in love and decided they wanted to be married. But neither of them had the valid identification necessary for obtaining a marriage license. Their officiant, Pastor Richard Frankel, helped the couple first obtain their state ID cards. Then, he acted as liaison between the love birds and the Clerk’s office to facilitate getting their marriage license. And the wedding ceremony? It was held in June at the senior facility where the duo met – and where they now live happily ever after.

    Wedding Selfie Booth

Since June, the clerk's office has issued 1,428 marriage licenses.

During that time, those applying for a license, newlyweds, or couples celebrating many years of being together stopped for their selfie at the specially decorated photo booth in our office. Our original plan was to offer the booth just for one month, but the spot is so popular with office visitors that we have left it in place.

Stop by to take your selfie!

    A hint of history

Although the November 6, 1962 General Election seems like ancient history to some, others of us remember voting then. After the polls closed on Election Day, almost 90,000 ballots were counted, and hand-written tallies were recorded in a ledger. Click on the image below to see a larger version of the cover and the last two pages from the November 1962 Lake County ledger. You might recognize some of the candidate’s names of Dirksen, McClory, Kukla, and Matijevich – even if you weren’t old enough to vote that year.
