The weekend calls for an enhanced risk of severe storms overnight
Friday and into Saturday that may produce damaging winds and torrential
rainfall. The three-day forecast shows a total of two to three inches of rain
across Lake County and southeast Wisconsin over the upper Des Plaines and Fox
River watersheds.
As a result, there is a significant threat of localized
flooding/flash flooding, and the potential for increased river levels. The Des
Plaines River, Fox River and Chain O'Lakes are projected to be impacted by
these storms. View Flood Safety Tips
High winds may cause tree limbs to fall and damage power
lines, increasing the chance of power outages. Please report any outages
to ComEd at ComEd.com/Report or
by calling 1-800-334-7661.

The Fox Waterway Agency,
in coordination with the Stormwater Management Commission, is monitoring the
concern over water backup around the bog in the Squaw Creek area underneath
Route 59 in Fox Lake. A bog is an area that holds water for a long period of
time that is usually acidic and rich in accumulated plant material, however, it
is primarily composed of water. Water is flowing through and around the bog and
continues to flow under the bridge. At this time, it is not causing water
level increases to upstream Squaw Creek. Water level increases are attributed
to recent rainfall in and around Lake County, and additional rainfall is
anticipated throughout the weekend.
The area is currently closed to boating. The Fox
Waterway Agency deals with bogs on a regular basis during events of this
magnitude and plans to address this bog and others throughout the system once
water has receded to working level, which will be before opening the area to
boating traffic.
We will continue to monitor this concern closely, especially in
light of projected thunderstorms heading this way. If you have any questions or
concerns, please contact the Fox Waterway Agency at 847-587-8540 or info@foxwaterway.com.
