With a plowable snow in the forecast, the Lake County Division of Transportation story and links below are timely, interesting and helpful.
LCDOT has added interactive travel information for our convenience. Snowbirds, take note of what you are missing!
At this time of the year, you can find an abundance of events in villages, parks, libraries and more (see links below). And you can read about some of the Lake County Forest Preserves District activities and opportunities below.
I expect to have a newsletter for you in two weeks. However, just in case you don't read it in time, let me now wish you and yours a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Season's Greetings and a 2017 filled with the blessings of good health, happiness and peace.
Regards,
Residents often ask –
what does the County do? The Lake County Board invests in 300 miles of county
roads that you drive on every day, funds public safety and judicial agencies
that work 24/7 to keep your family safe, and supports healthcare programs that
contribute to the health and wellness of our residents and communities.
All of these and many other vital services are funded with about 7% of
your property tax bill, and the County Board is working hard to stretch every
penny. And, YOU have a say in how we prioritize and invest your tax dollars.
You’re invited to participate in our
first-ever Telephone Town Hall meeting Dec. 13 at 7
p.m. with Lake
County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor. As the county board gets ready to update
its strategic plan next year, we want to know what is important to you.
During the Telephone Town Hall, we will discuss our current priorities,
and you will be able to share your thoughts and ideas to make our county even
better!
|
You can also submit
your thoughts and ideas to make our county even better through our “Community Voice” forum. It’s easy to join the conversation by signing
in and sharing your ideas for a better Lake County. Provide Input Now! |

Residents
and officials recently gathered in central Lake County to celebrate the
completion of the Hawley Street Project. This project was a joint effort
between the Village of Mundelein who led the development and design of the
project, and the Lake County Division of Transportation, who was responsible for the construction of the project. The
finished product is a completely reconstructed Hawley Street, new water main
and sanitary sewer, new and upgraded traffic signals, and a new sidewalk and
bike path. Watch

Don’t Crowd the Plow
We just received our first
significant snowfall of the year! When plow trucks are out, remember to stay
back at least 50 feet or two to three car lengths, due to road conditions and
so the plow operators can see your vehicles. The Lake County Division of
Transportation’s snowplow operators are extremely safety conscious, but they
need your help. Stay back, and let them do their job of cleaning the road for
you. Don’t Crowd the Plow! Watch our video to learn more.

The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission recognizes outstanding efforts by organizations, communities, groups and individuals for projects and other proactive and innovative efforts to improve water quality, reduce flooding, and help restore the natural drainage system. The Stormwater Management Commission recently recognized Grand Dominion by Del Webb Community Association with the "Community of the Year" award! Here's what was said by the commission:
"The Grand Dominion Community Association is responsible for the management of 350 acres of naturalized open space which includes numerous detention basins and wetlands and features a high quality wetland complex centered within the community. The Wetlands Commission, a group of 11 volunteers, has donated hundreds of hours to ensure that the stormwater system and open space remain high quality both aesthetically and functionally. The community newsletters also feature articles on their work and the importance of a properly maintained open space. The Association pursues projects, maintenance, and education that benefits not only their community, but the watershed as a whole."
