Lake County, along with our
nation and local communities, is facing a mental health crisis that affects the
individual, families, friends, neighbors, veterans, employers, schools,
hospitals, the criminal justice system, and more.
To address this growing problem
and strengthen mental health services across the county, Lake County Board
Chairman Aaron Lawlor and the Honorable Susan Garrett (former IL State
Senator, 29th District) will lead a new community-wide initiative focusing on
data-sharing and evidence-based practices to identify gaps and recommend a
sustainable continuum of care for this vulnerable population. Find Out More
 August is the peak month for West Nile virus.
The disease can be transmitted by mosquitoes and is again present this summer
in Lake County. Hear from Mike Adam,

The second installment of your 2015 property tax bill is due Sept. 2. Please note, you received one bill in May, and you will not receive another bill for the second installment. If you have misplaced your second installment coupon, you can print a copy from the Treasurer's Office website by entering your PIN or address.

- Visit a Lake County Tax Assessment Help Center or the Chief County Assessment Office for one-on-one assistance to understand your assessment and/or file an appeal.
- Property owners in Avon Township have until Sept. 6 to file an assessment appeal.
 As students return to the classroom, let’s make sure
they are safe this school year. This means keeping an eye on the road for
school buses and students walking to school, as well as making sure students

If you have prescription drugs that need to be
thrown out, do it the safe and responsible way. As part of International
Overdose Awareness Day, which is Aug. 31, municipal police departments across
Lake County want residents to be aware of the disposal boxes
available. The Lake County Underage Drinking and Drug Prevention Task
Force disposal program in partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake
County collected nearly 12,000 pounds of prescription medicine with an estimated street value of $750,000 in 2015. Find

 The Lake County Merit Commission is currently accepting applications for the deputy sheriff position. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age at the time of orientation, a high school graduate (or GED) and possess a valid driver's license. Apply Today

 Lake County has installed its third FREE electric vehicle charging station! The new station is at the Lake County Court and Administrative Complex and is FREE to use for two hours per charge. The stations allow you to recharge plug-in electric vehicles, including all-electric cars, neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Electric vehicle owners must have a ChargePoint membership to use the County’s charging stations. The Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center recently broke ground for its
Healing Garden, a place to bring comfort to child victims of abuse. The
Children’s Advocacy Center works with the State’s Attorney’s Office and Lake
County police departments to investigate and help successfully prosecute
offenders of child abuse without causing further trauma to the child victim. Watch this video to learn more. |

Low-cost pet vaccination clinic coming in Grayslake
Get your pet's vaccinations up to date at a low-cost pet vaccination clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 at the Grayslake Police Department, 10 S. Seymour. Pets are taken on a first come first served basis at these clinics offered by the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center. All animals brought to a clinic must be at least four months old. Learn more
Check out car show at College of Lake County
Cool cars of various types will be on display at the Techs of Tomorrow Scholarship Car Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at the College of Lake County Parking Lots 1 and 3, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Awards will be given to the top 10 vehicles. There also will be door prizes as well as refreshments available.
